The BJP pulls out of the coalition with the PDP saying it has become "untenable" for it to continue with the alliance government. With that their two-year-old coalition government collapses.
NOVEMBER 20, 2018:
Reports about PDP, National Conference and Congress trying to cobble up an alliance for government formation emerge.
NOVEMBER 21, 2018:
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and Peoples Conference chief Sajad Gani Lone stake claim to government formation in separate letters to Governor Satya Pal Malik
APRIL 4, 2016:
Mehbooba Mufti is sworn in as the chief minister of J&K at the head of a PDP-BJP coalition government.
JUNE 20, 2018:
With no political party stakes claim to form a new government, Governor N.N. Vohra invokes Section 92 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, to promulgate Governor's rule after approval by President Pranab Mukherjee. It is the seventh time Governor's rule is promulgated in the state since Independence, the first being in March 1977. The Governor puts the State Assembly in suspended animation.
NOVEMBER 21, 2018:
Governor Satya Pal Malik passes an order in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by Clause (b) of subsection (2) of Section 53 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir dissolving the State Legislative Assembly
