A 16-year-old minor girl who was raped and left pregnant by a man and his 15-year-old son committed suicide in Nalgonda district. She ended her life by consuming pesticide, police said.

According to the police the minor had dropped out of school after Class 9 and was staying at home in Tirumalagiri village in Nampally mandal. To support her parents to eke out a living she used to occasionally go for work.

At other times, when her parents were away at at work, she was left alone at her home, police said. When she used to go to work in the agricultural fields she used to travel in an autorickshaw driven by one B. Srinu, who was also her neighbour. Police said he trapped the minor and began sexually exploiting her.

On Thursday she complained of severe stomach ache and her family took her to a nearby hospital where doctors said she was seven months pregnant. When questioned, the minor complained of the rape by Srinu and his son.

The family members took the girl to Srinu’s home and questioned him. In return he reportedly gave the family `5,000 and asked the girl to undergo an abortion. When the girl’s family took her to a hospital at Devarakonda, the doctor refused to terminate her pregnancy as it was a crime and unsafe for the girl.

When the girl’s parents confronted Srinu, he threatened them with dire consequences and physically abused them. The girl went into depression and consumed pesticide in her residence on Friday night and died.

Sub-inspector J. Shiva Kumar of Nampally village said, “The family members noticed that she consumed pesticide and rushed her to Nalgonda for better treatment. The doctors at a private hospital in Nalgonda declared her brought dead.”

The family members took the girl’s body and placed it in front of the accused home and stage an agitation on Saturday morning. The police have registered a case under the Juvenile Justice Act and further investigation is underway.
