3 arrested for insurance policy fraud, 17L seized

The Cyber Crime Police of Hyderabad apprehende­d three men in two different cases for cheating existing and new insurance policy holders claiming to provide huge returns on the policies in the short run.

In the first incident, Ankit Sagar, 28 a resident of Delhi was arrested based on a complaint from a lady from Hyderabad, wherein she stated that she was cheated by him after he promised to provide huge returns and bonus on her existing insurance policy. He lured her and asked her to pay `9,14,925, said Avinash Mohanty, DCP, CCS.

“Ankit Sagar used to contact existing and new insurance policy holders by going through their previous insurance policy numbers though insurance broker companies.

He then lures them by claiming that he can provide huge returns and bonus.

The accused has cheated many victims under the pretext of providing insurance in return for huge returns/bonus,” said the official, adding that

`5 lakh cash was seized from his possession.

In the second incident, the Cyber Crime Police apprehende­d Ashutosh Kanwal alias Ashu Kumar, 28, and Amith Kumar, 23, both private employees residing in Delhi, who call and cheat existing and new insurance policy holders using the same modus operandi, said the police, adding that they have seized

`12 lakh, 3 mobilephon­es and other material objects from the duo.

The general public are warned not to entertain people who claim to provide such huge returns on their insurance policies, which come through emails, messages or calls, concluded the DCP.

■ THE MODUS operandi of the three was similar. They lured people by saying that they would get huge returns on their insurance policies.
