Madrasas to be closed for polls

Most of the deeni madrasas of the city declared a holiday on December 7 to facilitate casting of votes by their students and staff.

Honouring the directives of the Chief Electoral Officer, Telangana managements of many madrasas decided to close down their institutions so that every eligible voter can use his right to vote. Moulana Ahsan Bin Mohammed Alhamoomi who runs two institutions, Madarsa-tulQuran Al-Farooqia and Madarsa-tul-Hamoomi li Tahfiz il Quran al Kareem, said, “We want every citizen to participate in the democratic process of electing the government of his choice, not only we decided to have a holiday on polling day, but we are also enticing the people to cast their vote without fail.”

Superintendent of Jamia Nizamia Moulana, Ubaidullah Faheem, said, “Our institution serves as polling stations and every time we declare a holiday on polling day.

Rector of Jamia Islamia Dar ul Uloom Hyderabad, Moulana Raheemuddin Ansari also declared holiday for both students and faculty.

Jamaiat ul Mominath, a religious institution for women, also declared a holiday on polling day. Moulana Mufti Mastan said, “In our institution many students are eligible for voting and we want them to utilise their democratic right of voting. We are aware that many Muslims are less concerned about the importance of voting, worrying about this attitude we have started a drive to highlight the importance of a vote and trying to convince the people to use their right of vote.”
