Woman arrested for 8 crore fraud ACCORDING TO

Konda Krishnamma, 30, who allegedly cheated the public of `8 crore under the pretext of providing them with 2BHK houses, was arrested along with her associates by the Bhongir police Special Operations Team on Saturday.

Speaking about the modus operandi of the accused, Bhongir deputy commission­er of police K. Narayana Reddy said, “She started the Malyavi Karunodaya Society at

Karmanghat, Saroornaga­r, with her family members, including her husband, as stakeholde­rs. She then appointed local people as coordinato­rs in the mandals and lured people with the assurance of providing them with 2 BHK houses for just `2.2 lakh if they paid `30,000 in advance.

She assured her victims that the remaining amount of `5 lakh would be borne by the society as they were due to receive NRI funds. Subsequent­ly, the accused collected `8.1 crore from 2,700 victims but never fulfilled the promise which she had made to them.”

On the complaint filed by a victim, the Alair police registered a case under Section 420 and 406 read with Section 34 of the IPC for the probe. The sleuths of the Bhongir Special Operations Team and the Alair police apprehende­d the accused persons on Saturday morning and managed to recover `12.2 lakh from them.
