The prime accused in the case of knife attack on YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Janupalli Srinivas, denied any intention to eliminate the leader and described the attack as accidental.

Srinivas who was released from Central Jail here on Saturday as his bail application on medical grounds to the NIA court in Vijayawada was accepted, said that he was working as a chef at a restaurant located in Visakhapatnam International Airport. He said, “After learning that Jagan was at the airport lounge waiting for a flight to catch it to reach Hyderabad, he rushed there eagerly to meet him and submit a letter containing problems of farmers, women, youngsters and other sections of people hoping that he could solve them unaware that he was having three knives and a fork in the pockets of his coat while working at the kitchen. After taking a selfie with Jagan, I was about to pull out a letter from my pocket when some sharp weapon hit him accidentally. I did not know, as to what weapon from me hit him. Immediately, security personnel caught hold of me and started beating me up. However, Jagan asked them not to beat me up as he is a good man and later the security personnel handed me over to the police. If I am alive today like this it is because of Jagan as he saved me from getting beaten up. I am innocent in the case and it happened accidentally and the said attack was not to gain sympathy. I am ready to undergo narco analysis test and if I am proved wrong, I am ready to be beheaded.”

Later, Srinivas accompanied by his brother and lawyer proceeded to his home village Thane Lanka of Mummidivaram mandal in East Godavari. He is supposed to appear before NIA court in Vijayawada for every 14 days.

Srinivas was found to be an introvert while staying in the jail as a prisoner and he suffered high viral fever for two days during his over one month long stay in the jail for which he was treated at the government hospital.
