PIL IN HC AGAINST LAND ALLOTMENT TO SWAMIJI

The Telangana High Court will hear a case challenging the sale of land by Yadadri Temple Development Authority (YTDA) to Jeeyar Integrated Vedic Academy (JIVA), represented by Mukhya Preraka and Sri Sri Sri Tridandi Chinna Srimannarayana Ramanuja Jeeyar Swamy.

Ch. Veera Chary, a resident of Lalapet, Hyderabad, who is associated with Weltech Foundation, an NGO, has filed a Public Interest Litigation seeking that the High Court stay operation of the registered sale deed of 2.3 acres of land located at Gundlapally village in Yadadri district. Veera Chary alleged that the land was sold to JIVA for a mere

`16.5 lakh as against its market value of more than `1 crore.

Alleging that Jeeyar Swamy, beneficiary of the Jeeyar Samstha, is very close to the ruling party as well as a business tycoon close to the ruling party, the petitioner submitted that the government is the custodian and trustee of lands in the state. It cannot simply give away lands to any person as per its whims and fancies.

The PIL came up for hearing on Wednesday before the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice A. Abhishek Reddy.

The counsel for the petitioner, however, requested time to allow a senior advocate to put forth arguments in the case. The bench then adjourned the case to September 25. Seeking a stay on execution of the sale deed, the petitioner submitted that the 2.3 acres of prime land was allotted to the Vedic Academy in lieu of a land already allotted in

2004 by the erstwhile government to Jeeyar Educational Trust on a lease of 30 years. A kuteeram was also constructed on the allotted land.
