Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan may review the functioning of all government departments.

As news about the Governor’s holding the review spread in official and political circles, ministers asked their department heads to update them on all development and welfare activities.

Some ministers in private talks in the Assembly lobby admitted that they had information that the Governor would hold department wise reviews periodically.

Sources close to the government disclosed that the Governor, who took office on September 8, will first review the health and education departments.

As the state is reeling under the onslaught of dengue, malaria, typhoid and viral fevers, the Governor could focus on the deaths caused by dengue fever during the review, sources said.

Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali who held a review on Wednesday with police officers in the Assembly is said to have indicated to senior police officers that the Governor will also review the functioning of the home department.

A senior IAS officer on condition of anonymity said that the Governor will send reports to the Centre once she completes the review of the government departments.

The Governor’s impending review has alerted the state health department, which has asked for a report on the actions taken by the government.

Sources disclosed that the Governor has asked officials of her secretariat to submit a report with regard to deaths and cases of viral fever in the state and also on the recent spate of suicides of Intermediate students.

Recently, BJP state president Dr Laxman and his team went to Delhi and made a presentation to the President about the Intermediate students’ suicides. There was a glitch in the exam results and several students who believed they had failed did not wait for a re-verification but committed suicide.

Sources in Raj Bhavan disclosed that the Governor has asked officials of her secretariat to submit a report with regard to deaths and cases of viral fever in the state and also on the recent spate of suicides of Inter students.
