Revanth seeks action against Uttam

- S.A. ISHAQUI | DC

Infighting has started in the Congress over the Huzurnagar Assembly candidate in the ensuing by-election. It is a fight between TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and TPCC working president A. Revanth Reddy.

TPCC president and MP, Capt Uttam Kumar Reddy had announced at Suryapet two days ago that Padmavathi Reddy, his wife and former MLA, would contest from Huzurnagar by-election.

Objecting to the announcement, Revanth Reddy complained to AICC general secretary RC Khuntia, demanding that a show-cause notice be issued to Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy for announcing the Huzurnagar candidate without clearance from the high command.

Mr Revanth Reddy further said that he would propose the candidature of TPCC spokesperson, Chamala Kiran Reddy, to high command as being suitable for the Huzurnagar assembly seat.

Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy had earlier asked former minister K Jana Reddy to contest from the Huzurnagar seat, but the senior party leader refused the offer. Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy had won twice from the Huzurnagar Assembly seat, which he vacated after winning the elections for the Nalgonda LS constituency.

Huzurnagar bypoll has become prestigious to Uttam Kumar Reddy as both party president and a former MLA.

Mr Revanth Reddy’s statement that he is going to propose Kiran Reddy for the seat has surprised Congress circles.

Revanth’s name was speculated recently as a likely probable for TPCC presidentship, with rumours claiming the high command has cleared his name.

Some Congress leaders, including V Hanumantha Rao, subsequently met the high command representatives and opposed Revanth’s candidature for TPCC presidentship. They informed the party leadership that if was made the TPCC chief, they would leave the party.
