We won’t hesitate to scrap VROs, if required, says CM
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday made it clear that his government will not hesitate in abolishing the system of Village Revenue Officers (VROs) in the Revenue Department if necessary.
Replying to a debate on the Appropriation Bill in the Legislative Assembly, he declared that Telangana will get a new Revenue Act, which will surprise the entire country. His government will not be scared of or spare any revenue staff, particularly VROs, if they go against its move to tone up revenue administration, he warned.
The Chief Minister wondered about the need for elected representatives or the legislature if employees try to implement laws as they wish.
“We are not scared of a handful of employees. The government will make laws that are good for the public. VROs have not fallen from the sky. They came in after abolition of the Patel and Patwari system, which had destroyed the revenue administration system in the combined state. If the current system of VROs is found worse than the earlier system, it is clear what the government should do,” he stated.
KCR further said: “We have never stated we are going to abolish the VRO system. We are examining the ways and means to bring in a new law to streamline revenue administration, weed out corruption, and provide transparent services to
the citizens of the state.”
He disclosed that the state government was holding discussions with all stakeholders, including employees and officers of the revenue department. If the government finds that the VRO system is not good,
it will be abolished.
He underlined that work on the Dharani App, aimed at updating the revenue records, is in process. “Once Dharani becomes operational, registrations and mutations will be done within hours,” KCR pointed out.
