TRS woos rebels to grab local bodies

- S.A. ISHAQUI | DC

The ruling TRS has started wooing its party rebels in a bid to grab more Urban Local Bodies (ULB).

In view of the initial reports that BJP is likely to finish second in corporations, political parties apprehend massive horsetrading during elections of chairpersons and their deputies, Mayor and deputy Mayor.

According to sources close to TRS, an internal survey of the ruling party revealed that in 10 municipal corporations, the BJP was likely to win 60 to 75 divisions and in such a scenario it would be difficult for the party to win the mayoral seats in some of the corporations.

Sources indicated that the BJP candidates have given tough fight to TRS in Ramgundam, Nizamabad, Boduppal and Jawaharnagar corporations.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that the Congress will win more wards than the the BJP in municipalities and some towns. Independents and rebels will be crucial for winning the top posts.

Scores of TRS aspirants entered the fray as independents after they were denied the party tickets. While some withdrew their candidature, many contested as rebels.

Sources in the TRS revealed that to woo the rebels the party has been offering them sops and it would be also possible that the TRS high command would give priority to them while forming councils in Municipalities and Corporations.

Sources pointed out that many of the rebels who have bright chances of winning are already in touch with the party and many of them returned to the partyfold.
