AP reports 1st Covid +ve case

Nellore: The first Coronaviru­s (Covid-19) virus positive case in Andhra Pradesh has been reported in Nellore on Thursday. The victim is a 25-year-old youth studying in Italy, who had returned home on March 6. He developed dry cough on March 6 and was admitted to the isolation ward of the government general hospital, Nellore. The medical and health and family welfare department confirmed the news of a positive Covid-19 case through a press release on Thursday, saying that the case was positive.

The medical and health and family welfare department confirmed the news of a positive

Covid-19 case through a press release on Thursday, saying that the case was positive, referring to a report from the virology lab of the Sri Venkateswa­ra Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS), Tirupati.

“The patient is stable and all his vitals are normal. He has recovered from the symptoms and is keeping good health. He will be discharged after completion of 14 days, after re-testing his samples again. All the five contacts of the patient have been identified and brought under the hospital’s quarantine, as per protocol,” the press release said.

Another student, who had returned from Italy along with him, however, tested negative. But he has also been kept under observatio­n at the GGH, though he has no symptoms, as a precaution­ary measure. Samples of the five have been sent to Pune for testing and the results are awaited.
