CORONAVIRUS

-

We parents are concerned about schools functioning amidst the Covid-19 outbreak. The state has reported multiple cases and it is becoming increasingly unsafe to send children to schools. Some states have postponed the reopening date of schools and I believe the government should impose the rules for all schools to be postponed until the situation is under control. The matter needs to be looked into at the earliest as such viruses can spread quickly in mass gatherings.

Hyderabad When the whole world, including the US is on high alert due to threat of coronavirus, and closing down mass gatherings, including imposing curbs on visas, and asking people to work from home, it is high time the Chief Minister closes schools without taking chances. Further, he can cancel all final examinations for school children this year and promote everyone to next academic year by barring exams. The portions remaining can be covered in the beginning of next academic year.

With many schools and cinema theatres shut down across the country, including major sporting events like the IPL, it is time the government does its bit to stop religious congregations at mosques, temples and churches. Religious leaders need to be sensitized about the risks to people from Covid-19. A large number of worshippers are senior citizens who are vulnerable to the disease.

All organisations both government, private and educational institutions may cancel seminars, meetings, etc for at least a month. We see many global meetings being held in Hyderabad despite the virus scare. Let us help ourselves and help our nation in preventing the spread of this dreadful disease.

When Covid-19 is a worry all over the world and scientists and rulers are engaged in finding solution to this pandemic, the least that world leaders can do is to forget about cultural differences and concentrate on spreading awareness among citizens about the severity of the epidemic and the precautions to be followed. Our origins or culture is not a question now and the utmost priority is to stop this dreadful disease.
