State must rein in adamant schools on fees
State should nail private schools
The fees for a three-and-halfyear-old kid enrolled in nursery ranges between `80, 000 and `1.5 lakh, which is preposterous.
On their part, initiating moves that smack of unreasonable marketing strategies, many educational institutions bear innovative names and boast of attractive décor and corporate professionalism to draw the attention of parents.
Having kids and educating them is one of the biggest challenges during these testing times. Besides making ends meet, parents are obsessed with providing quality education to children, achieving which is a Himalayan task.
I wonder why some private institutions mandate that uniform, school emblem bags and shoes be bought in the school premises or from vendors chosen by them.
Parents oblige for fear that their children would, otherwise, be subject to punishments.
Some schools provide milk, lunch and snacks and parents have no other option but to avail of such 'facilities'.
As a matter of principle, every year there is a near 10 per cent hike in tuition fees and transportation charges irrespective of factors like economic slowdown or recession.
The strings attached are so enormous that in a family with a single bread-earner, aspiring to provide quality education to their children is nothing short of a luxury!
The government should up the ante and bring to book all educational institutions, howsoever privileged they may be, that indulge in broad daylight robbery in the name of education.
