14-yr-old abused Nepali girl rescued

Perpetrator promised job to lure her to Haribowli area of city and sexually abused her

A 14-year-old girl, who was brought to the city from the Basti town in western Nepal nine months ago under the promise of employment, was sexually abused repeatedly after being held in Haribowli area under Mogalpura police station limits in the city.

According to the police, a person named Shiva who visited the Basti last year, lured the girl to the city promising her a job that can help her family back home. With her father already working in the city as a security guard for about three years, the girl accompanied Shiva to the city. However, instead of providing her the promised employment, Shiva began sexually exploiting her along with several other men. When the girl tried to escape, she was caught by Shiva who then married her but continued to exploit her sexually by pimping her out to other men.

Meanwhile, with no information about their daughter, her family filed a complaint in Nepal saying that she was missing. However, all their efforts went in vain. They only heard from her when the girl managed to call her brother to inform him of her plight and that she was being held in Hyderabad. As soon as he received call from his sister, the brother, accompanied by his mother, arrived in the city on Friday and the family lodged a complaint with Balala Hakkula Sangham, which in turn, took the matter to the notice of additional commissioner of police Shikha Goel. The police traced the location of the phone the girl used to call her brother and rescued her on Saturday and arrested Shiva and remanded him into custody.

According to the girl’s parents, she was last seen when she was playing outside their house in a Basti. Though her father was in Hyderabad, he was not aware that his daughter was in the city until his son and wife came to the city and contacted him.

The girl has since been sent for a medical checkup. According to the parents, the police informed them that they can take their daughter back to Nepal with them once she recovers and is fit to travel.
