5th Covid-19 case registered in state

Telangana on Tuesday registered its fifth case of novel coronaviru­s infection. The Covid-19 positive patient is an Indonesian national, part of a 10-member group from Indonesia.

The rest of the group of men from Indonesia have also been admitted to Gandhi Hospital along with the Covid-19 positive patient.

The health of the other nine members is being monitored and we are waiting for their test results, Health Minister Etala Rajendar told a news conference on Tuesday evening.

While the state’s first

Covid-19 patient, a 24year-old from the city, has already been discharged, four others, including the Indonesian patient, are currently undergoing treatment in Gandhi Hospital.

The minister said 88 primary contacts of the first patient have tested negative for the disease and the same was the outcome of tests done on 111 contacts of the second patient who came from Italy and the third patient who came from the Netherland­s.

“We are tracking the health of 11 contacts of the fourth patient who came from Scotland,” Mr Rajendar said.

With respect to the fifth patient who tested positive on Tuesday, the government was still in the process of identifyin­g people he and nine others in his group came into contact with after arriving in Telangana, Mr Rajendar said.

He said so far 66,182 passengers have been screened at Rajiv Gandhi Internatio­nal Airport. Tests of 464 persons who exhibited some symptoms were done.

Only five people have tested positive in the state so far, the health minister said.
