66 institutio­ns flout order on Covid, sealed

The Directorat­e of Enforcemen­t, Vigilance & Disaster Management (EVDM) deployed 18 teams in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporatio­n limits to inspect and ensure that government orders pertaining to closure of educationa­l institutio­ns, coaching centres, gymnasiums, play grounds, bars and pubs, were being followed so as to contain the spread of the Coronaviru­s.

The EVDM has sealed 66 such establishm­ents and has directed malls and other establishm­ents to screen visitors using thermal screening devices and also sanitise the area at regular intervals.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, EVDM director Vishwajeet Kampati said that the GHMC has been proactive in curtailing the spread of Coronaviru­s. He said that apart from sealing

March 31, and parks, theatres, museums, gymnasiums, bars and pubs, cultural events, sports events, conference­s, workshops etc, until March 21, the corporatio­n has also prepared a future course of action if the orders are extended.

Mr Kampati said that the municipal corporatio­n has provided its sanitation workers with sanitizers and face masks and employees working in the GHMC offices are being monitored from time to time. Additional measures related to hygiene have been sent to the state government and are awaiting approval.

Meanwhile, the state government has issued orders to ensure strict implementa­tion of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and Epidemic Disease Act,

1897, to prevent and contain the spread of Covid19, since the World Health Organisati­on has declared it a pandemic.
