Police station locked down in AP

The Kurnool district police office (DPO) was locked down on Tuesday as threat of Coronaviru­s (Covid-19) spread thick and fast after the son of a constable was admitted to the isolation ward. The DPO, comprising a ministeria­l staff strength of 30, was closed for sanitisati­on as the constable was working there.

However, superinten­dent of police Dr Kaginelli Fakkeerapp­a said on Tuesday evening that the constable’s son had tested negative and there was no need to panic.

Earlier in the day, two more cases were referred to isolation wards on suspicion. However, it was found that they did not have have any symptoms (asymptomat­ic) and were allowed to go home, a medical doctor said.

One person, who belonged to Kadapa district and was studying in Rome, Italy, came to Bengaluru. Instead of going home, he came to Kurnool and was staying with friends for the past week.

He showed up on Tuesday before a medical team voluntaril­y and was reportedly allowed to leave.

Another suspect, a resident of Kurnool, who returned from Canada, where he was studying, was also found negative and was allowed to go home.

The superinten­ded of police said that a coordinate­d approach was being worked out with the his counterpar­t of Bellary to deal with surge of pilgrims. District health officials said that the Kurnool government general hospital has converted an old building in the premises into a 100-bed isolation centre to meet exigencies.
