In a barbaric incident at Rangareddy district, a woman was murdered and her nude body was thrown under a culvert on the outskirts of Thangadpally village in Chevella mandal. The police, who sent the body for the post-mortem examination, have found that she was not subjected to forceful sexual assault.

The efforts put in by the accused to ensure that no evidence was left at the crime scene and disfiguring the woman’s face by hitting with a boulder and her hands tied, has surprised the investigators, who are trying to connect the bits and pieces of the information collected as part of the probe.

At around 7 am on

Tuesday, Naveen, a resident of Thangadpally village, who went to the outskirts to attend nature’s call noticed the body of a woman lying under a bridge. He informed locals and in turn, the Chevella police were alerted.

On inspection, the police found that the victim, aged between 25 to 30, had her face smashed with a boulder and was disrobed. Her ornaments – a pair of bangles, a chain, ring and bracelet – made of gold were abandoned near the corpse.

The police managed to get a saree and covered the woman’s body to save her dignity, as the onlookers from the nearby areas were gathering in heavy numbers to see the crime scene, as the reports of the heinous incident were out to the media.

“She (victim) was strangulated to death using a rope. Her body was brought to the village outskirts and was dumped. Except for the injury on the face, no other injuries were found, and also no signs of forcible sexual assault were noticed by the forensic doctors,” said Chevella inspector Ch Balakrishna.

“To ensure that the woman’s identity could not be established, the accused have tried to disfigure her face by smashing with a boulder. However, a portion of her face was not damaged, and her face pictures along with the gold articles recovered from the spot were shared with the counterparts to find if any woman with similar descriptions went missing in the recent past,” said another police official.

Speaking to media, Chevella ACP Ravinder Reddy said that the road was used by the locals to go to Vikarabad, and others generally do not use the road. “Special teams have been pressed into action to find clues and establish the identity of the woman,” he said.

The special teams are focusing on the footage of the CCTV cameras en route the crime scene. They are also enquiring with jewellery stores to find at what parts of the state or the country the ornaments recovered could be made and they are also trying to verify if any woman has checkedout the previous night from the nearby resorts and farmhouses.

Another senior official who is supervising the probe said, “The way the crime was committed shows that the woman was in close proximity with the accused. The possibility of sexual jealousy also cannot be ruled out. We are trying to first establish her identity, which will help in connecting the sequence of incidents before and after the murder.”
