SENIOR CITIZENS SUFFER AMID COVID CRISIS
Senior citizens, many of whose children are not living with them, are those suffering the most during this lockdown.
The seriousness of the lockdown means that transportation is nonexistent, groceries are out of stock in some parts, food availability has also fallen as restaurants are closed, delivery services are at a standstill. The Health department has announced that people who are above 60 years are at a greater risk At this point, senior citizens will be in need of help.
A few socially responsible citizens have come forward to extend a helping hand.
The unified federation of residential associations (UFRA), of which 4300 residential colonies in the twin cities are members, has come out to help senior citizens whose children are not living with them.
They contacted 30 senior citizen associations, during the janta curfew and managed help 11 older people in need of help. Since the lockout was declared, UFRA want to extend this work. B.T. Srinivasan, general secretary, UFRA, said that there are 70 senior citizen associations in the city
Trice, a startup, app and logistics team, funded by Movie Director Rajamouli, designed for large residential areas, came into existence two years ago by four people. It delivers necessities to senior citizens. “Trice is seen as a great help to many senior citizens in sun city and surrounding areas who are taking the help,” said T. Goutham Reddy and Naveen. K.L. two of the founder-members.
