Chairman of the Wakf Board Mohammed Saleem requested the Muslim community to avoid performing crowded Juma prayers in mosques. He said only a few people should be allowed to fulfil the canonical obligation in the wake of Covid-19.

Speaking to the media along with Macca masjid sermoniser Moulana Rizwan Qureshi, and Moulana Mohammed Osman, he said the situation was very critical and there is no medicine invented as yet to cure the viral infection. In these circumstances, he said, “it is our duty to avoid congregations to break the chain of the virus. Our ulema and theologians had already clarified the Sharia rulings about abandoning congregational prayers.”

He requested the Muslim community to say the Zuhr (midday prayer) at home instead of the regular Juma. He said recognised seminaries like

Jamia Azhar (Egypt), Jamia Nizamia, Jamiat Ahle Hadees and the famous theologian, Moulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, have issued fatwas in the light of Sharia that Muslims should refrain from going mosques to perform Juma and hopefully their reward will not be reduced by the Almighty. He said within two days, the Wakf Board will come out with a rescue plan for needy. Moulana Qureshi and Moulana Osman also requested the community to follow the anti-virus protocol and cooperate with the administration.
