The Hyderabad cop who was infected with Coronavirus breathed his last at 10.30 pm on Wednesday.

“He used to perform his duties at Puranapul check post under Kulusumpura police station. We suspect that during the vehicle checking, he might have contracted the virus. The victim was a 2007 batch constable from Nalgonda district,” said the police.

Confirming Reddy’s death, Telangana state police in a statement said ‘Police Constable Officer Dayakar Reddy, a Covid-19 frontline warrior of Hyderabad city police, died of the Coronavirus last night at Gandhi hospital,” and expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.

The Telangana state police said they stand in support the family in the hour of distress.

Meanwhile social activist, Sunitha Krishnan, who heads the anti-trafficking NGO Prajwala said, “Prajwala will bear all costs of the education of the three children till they complete their high school. This is the least we can do for a Covid-19 warrior who staked his life so that we are safe.”
