Telangana to be sizzling hot till May 25

Kandikal Gate in the city recorded 43.9º Celsius on Saturday, in the midst of the heat wave that will last till May 25. The temperatur­e was recorded by the Telangana State Developmen­t Planning Society (TSDPS), which also reported that Endpally Rajarampal­li in Jagtial district recorded the highest day temperatur­e of 47.2º C.

The temperatur­e in the city, as recorded by the

Indian Meteorolog­ical Department on Saturday was 42.8ºC.

According to the IMD officials, dry north-westerly winds are prevailing over northwest and central India for last two days and it is likely to continue during next the four to five days. Under its influence, heatwaves to severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over plains of northwest India and adjoining Central India. Rainfall activity has significan­tly reduced over south peninsular India, giving

rise to the developmen­t of heatwave conditions over parts of the region.

Officials said that there could be heatwave situations prevalent over the

state for the next 72 hours. Weather officials have said that Cyclone Amphan, which struck Odisha and West Bengal earlier in the week, had sucked away moisture in the atmosphere over Telangana state, which was making the summer feel that much warmer.

Elsewhere, Churu in Rajasthan recorded 46.6ºC and Kota 45.9ºC. The national capital sweltered under the hottest day of the season with the mercury crossing the 46ºC mark.

In large areas, heatwave is declared when the maximum temperatur­e is 45ºC for two consecutiv­e days.
