THE CORPORATION has taken action to prevent inundation at two locations in the IT corridor: near the Shilparamam air-conditioned bus stop and opposite Bata showroom, Ayyappa Society.

Despite the Covid-19 outbreak, residents living in Charminar, Malakpet and L.B. Nagar should be rehabilitated or else they would face inundation during the monsoon, along with the Covid-19 crisis.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has identified these three among 24 locations which would be prone to submergence even during normal rainfall. Most of them are in Covid-19 containment areas.

The civic body has provided a permanent solution in six other lowlying areas which will be saved from inundation.

The corporation officials have divided the inundation-prone areas into two categories. In category A, pumps ranging from 1 HP to 20 HP capacity will be installed to pump out water to nearby culverts, nalas or any other water body in case of inundation. They found no other way to prevent inundation.

The corporation has taken action to prevent inundation at two locations in the IT corridor: near the Shilparamam air-conditioned bus stop and opposite Bata showroom, Ayyappa Society.

The civic body has failed to provide solutions to the inundation points at Modern Bakery in Habsiguda, Adarshagar Colony Road No 1, Malakpet rail underbridge (RUB), RUB at Yakupura station, Wali function hall in Chandrayangutta, New Afzalsagar, Baitek Road in Dattatreya Colony, Karol Bagh ‘A’, HS Residency, Seven Tombs road in Tolichowki, Nadeen Colony, Zamali Kunta, opposite Begum Bazaar police station, Rang Mahal, Lakeview Guest House, MS Maqtha, RUB at Balkampet, Villa Marrie College on Raj Bhavan Road, Aditya Towers, Shaikpet, Road No 44 in Jubilee Hills, and Nectar Garden in Madhapur.

The inundation areas in category B include the end point of Hafeezpet flyover road, Allwyn towards Kondapur RTA office, Subhas Chandra Bose Nagar in Madhapur, the spot opposite Domino’s in Road 6, Nimboliadda, Universal swimming pool to Shirdinagar along nala and Oliphanta bridge. In Category B, the corporation has decided to use large pumps to pump water into nearby sewers and storm water drains.

Officials claimed that until encroachments are removed and land is acquired, the corporation could not provide any solution in category A. Areas falling under this category will be submerged even during normal rainfall and residents have to be evacuated and rehabilitated during heavy rainfall.
