Change in TPCC put on hold

- IREDDY SRINIVAS REDDY | DC

Aspirants for the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief ’s post received a shock with the decision of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) not to make any changes in the leadership till the completion of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections.

There were speculation that the incumbent, Uttam Kumar Reddy, will be replaced after the 2018 December Assembly elections, and then after the Parliament elections.

Their hopes were based on Reddy having completed his tenure and the poor performance of the party in the elections.

Sources in the Congress disclosed that the high command had indicated to all state party units that it wanted to revamp the AICC first before changing the leadership at the state level. Sources disclosed that the high command would replace party incharges, including TPCC incharge Dr R.C. Khuntia.

Sources said the high command was keen on entrusting responsibilities to the younger generation of leaders to strengthen in the party to face the 2024 elections.

While the AICC decision has disappointed the aspirants, they were also angered when they came to know that Dr Khuntia had forwarded a list containing the names of 17 aspirants for the TPCC president’s post.

He is said to have listed all 17 senior leaders including MPs, MLAs, former ministers and exMLAs. Against the names of 16 leaders, he made adverse remarks and left out one candidate, a very young former MLA. The aspirants are hoping that the AICC will not consider this list.
