450 PATIENTS GET DISCHARGED FROM GANDHI

- VIKRAM SHARMA I DC

Over 450 Covid-19 patients, of whom about 390 are mild, very mild and pre-symptomatic cases, were discharged from the Gandhi hospital on Monday.

While a majority of them, about 310 were asked to home-quarantine themselves for 14 days, others were sent to the Nature Cure Hospital at Ameerpet. The remaining 60 patients who were discharged tested negative for the virus.

Coming as it does at a time when the state is witnessing a steep increase in the number of cases, this is the highest number of patients discharged on a single day in the state.

Hospital sources told Deccan Chronicle that the 450 patients had been admitted more than 10 days ago from Hyderabad and other parts of the state.

As per the guidelines issued by the Union health ministry, mild/ very mild and pre-symptomatic cases can be discharged by the 10th day without a virus swab test. But doctors claim this could lead to further spread the disease.

Officials felt that it would not be possible for the health department to conduct tests on all dead bodies every day.

They told the Chief Minister that attending court every day was hindering the treatment of Covid-19 patients.

They said Gandhi Hospital had a capacity to treat 2,000 Covid patients but there only 247 were left in the hospital.

The officials said the scene was different from what the Opposition and other vested interests were projecting. They said that the people who were indulging in propaganda were trying to demoralise frontline worriers.

After giving them a patient hearing, the Chief Minister assured them the state government will address their pain and agony.

He appealed to people not to panic as the state machinery had been augmented to combat Covid19.

He said the government was providing treatment as per the guidelines of the Indian Council for Medical and Research. Meanwhile, the medical and health department said 92 Covid positive cases and five deaths were recorded in the state on Monday.

The state has so far recorded 3,742 cases and

142 deaths.
