Medicos going home take measures to protect kin from virus
A male relative of a postgraduate student of the pulmnology department in Gandhi Hospital has tested positive for Covid19 and is undergoing treatment at the hospital. The PG also tested positive on Saturday, but is asymptomatic.
It is suspected that the infection could have spread to family members from the PG doctor. Other members have been quarantined. The PG doctor has mild symptoms of Covid-19.
This incident has got post-graduates worried as their families at home need to be protected. Some of them have young children and elderly parents and some of them live in joint families.
While mild symptomatic cases are being isolated at home if the facility available, some are opting to take treatment in hospitals in a bid to protect their families. The testing is being carried out only if they have symptoms and those who are primary contacts are still asymptomatic.
“This is our biggest worry as we are carriers of the virus. In the hospital set-up, the transmission of the virus is quick. For this reason, every alternate day more and more are being PG doctors are being tested as they are developing symptoms,” explained a post graduate from Osmania Medical College.
Those who are going back home have asked family members not to come close to them, wear a mask at home and strictly follow sanitisation measures. If a spare bathroom and room is available the PGs say that are staying there as they do not want to come in close contact with their family members.
On Friday, two postgraduates of surgery and two of the plastic surgery department, a dentist PG and an intern tested positive
