An online survey conducted by members of the Hyderabad Schools Parents’ Association has underlined the need for a cap on online classes being taken by various schools across the state.

Close to 1,000 parents of students belonging to different schools in

Telangana participated in the survey. In fact, they demanded that the state education department totally cancel online classes for students from nursery to Class 5. Further, there should be a cap on the number of hours these classes are held for students above Class 5.

The survey showed that more than 50 percent of parents had to buy a new device for their wards, so that their kids could attend online classes. A significant number of parents agreed that such online classes have adverse effects on the health of their children. They feel online education is not a very effective way of learning, since the kids are unable to comprehend what they are being taught.

A parent choosing to be anonymous suggested: “The education model should concentrate more on learning and educating, and not on completing the syllabus or studying for marks. There must be a paradigm shift from mere book learning to a more practical teaching in which kids have the chance to actively participate.”

Results of the survey have been sent to the state’s principal secretary, school education, asking authorities concerned to take cognisance of the survey.
