OVER 40K CHINESE CYBER ATTACKS IN 5 DAYS: COPS

Amidst rising tensions between India and China, the Maharashtr­a Cyber police has revealed that there were over

40,000 attempted online attacks on the country’s Informatio­n Technology apparatus in the last five days. The attacks were masked as refusal of services, phishing and hijacking and taking over of internet protocol (IP) addresses. The officials said that the attacks originated from China.

The cyber police have asked the netizens to be vigilant of even slightest of suspicious activity that could be unseen phishing attacks asking the firms to conduct regular cyber audits. The cyber police are anticipati­ng more such attacks as the tensions on the Line of Actual Control continues to simmer.

“These attempted attacks were traced back to Chengdu in China and the exact figure stands at 40,300 currently. The entities should keep updating their firewalls and other cyber security measures,” said a senior cyber police officer.

The probe into these attacks state that there are at least 20 lakh Indian email ids at risk of attacks by ending up compromisi­ng on their passwords or passcodes at hands of fraudulent email or texts. The popular way of cyber attacks include impersonat­ion under the pretext of being a government entity or similar associatio­n.
