Panchavati parks ready for inauguration

Acupressure-based walkway design to help senior citizens, knee patients

- MADDY DEEKSHITH I DC

A Panchatatva Park with walkway (based on the concept of acupressure) has been developed incorporating the Panchabhutas, the five elements of nature, — earth (prithvi), water (jal), fire (agni), air (vayu) and ether (akasha).

Each of these elements has its own character and celestial elements. The Panchatatva walk is a circular track developed using eight components to walk over this track.

The eight components include pebbles of 20 mm, 10 mm, 6 mm chips, river stone, rough sand, tree bark, black soil (tank silt) and water. The stretch will be done from a very hard surface to a smooth and relaxing component by which the blood circulation is believed to improve.

Panchatatva parks have been completed in Indira Park, Krishna Kant Park, Kakatiyanagar Park and are ready for inauguration. Similar parks are in progress in all zones and will be completed in July.

The parks help senior citizens and those with knee pains and cannot walk for long distances.

It is designed with an inner circle of five-metre radius or more with a walking track around the circle of 1.5-metre width. The walkway is constructed with a nine-inch height brick or curbing on both sides of the track.

The track is divided into eight equal parts. The inner circle (encircled by a walking track) is divided into nine segments and plants corresponding to the Navagrahas — nine planets — are planted along with a variety of herbal plants in the boxes. By this the people will feel as though they are doing parikramas around Navagrahas. The walking should be done barefoot. Around the track, plants related to zodiac signs and nakshatras are also planted as per the availability of the space.

In addition, a sculpture of Gautam Buddha or Charaka placed in the is centre besides which is a water cascade to create pleasant sounds and peaceful environment in the area, around which seating areas are also provided.

Walking on the track is believed to control insomnia, improve eyesight, cardiovascular activity and immunity, strengthen the nervous system, increase energy, help menstrual and hormonal issues, reduce inflammation, help maintain blood pressure and clear the mind by activating the acupressure points in the soles.
