Boiler blast in TN kills six

Neyveli: A boiler exploded at NLC India’s thermal plant here killing six people and leaving 17 others injured on Wedne-sday and it has been shut for safety audit, the company said. An official was suspended and a high level inquiry and an internal probe has been ordered, the company said. The six deceased men were aged between 25 and 42, and at least seven injured men sustained over 50 per cent burns.

The CB-CID, which took over the investigat­ion of the sensationa­l Sathankula­m police custody deaths case under directions of the Madras high court in Madurai, registered a murder case under section 302 of IPC and arrested six policemen in connection with the custodial death of Jayaraj and his son Bennix.

The deaths of the Sathankula­m traders, P. Jayaraj and his 31-year-old son Bennix were earlier registered as unnatural death under section 174 of CrPc. They have been converted as the subject of a murder case by the CB-CID police who took up the investigat­ion only on Wednesday.

The police also arrested six accused — two Sub-inspectors Balakrishn­an and Ragu Ganesh and four police constables - Maharajan, Chelladura­i, Murugan and Muthuraj — in connection with the custody deaths after police torture.

The FIRs filed in the case were altered to include murder charges against two SIs and constables.

Raghu Ganesh was first arrested by CB-CID officials, who took over the probe into the case which has triggered a nation-wide outrage.
