HYD RECEIVED EXCESS RAIN IN JUNE

The first month of the southwest monsoon season, June, has witnessed Hyderabad district receive excess rainfall, according to meteorolog­ists.

Against the normal of 101.9 mm rain for the period, this year, the monsoon clouds poured 180.9 mm of rain over the district. “Most of the country, barring a few parts in the northeaste­rn region, has fared well so far this monsoon. Some places have also registered large excesses of rainfall this last month,” G.P. Sharma, president (meteorolog­y), Skymet, a private weather forecastin­g company, told Deccan Chronicle.

The rains during June in Telangana have not just managed to soak the city every so often but also parts of the state which too received copious amounts of rain. For instance, Wanaparthy district received 134 per cent excess of its normal rainfall. Against its normal of 73 mm of rainfall, it received 170.8 mm of rain.

The next two days will also see at least half of Telangana’s district receive spells of rain. “We predict that there would be rains over the state for the next two-days. Till now, the rains have been as per the expectatio­ns for this year,” said K. Naga Ratna, director, Indian meteorolog­ical department (IMD) Hyderabad.
