Don’t politicise canal breach, says Harish

- S.A. ISHAQUI | DC

Telangana finance minister T. Harish Rao on Wednesday slammed opposition leaders belonging to BJP and Congress stating that “they are unnecessarily creating a furore over leakage of water from a canal of Kondapochamma Sagar.

Addressing a press conference in Gajwel town of Siddipet district, Harish Rao said opposition leaders were slinging mud only for the sake of publicity. It would be better if they make constructive suggestions to the state government.

Citing instances of breaches at several irrigation projects during their initial stages of launch, the minister said “Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project is the biggest in the world. There will be certain leakages at the initial stage. The government will certainly rectify them.”

The minister reminded that when Congress was in power, pipelines of Devadula Lift Irrigation Project leaked and destroyed many places. It is strange that many Congress leaders, who were ministers then, are now blaming the state government for minor faults in a mega project like Kaleshwaram.
