- S.A. ISHAQUI | DC

The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) on Thursday asked the Telangana government to furnish the Detailed Project Reports (DPR) of new projects taken up by the state which required clearance from the KRMB and the Central Water Commission (CWC) and the sanction of the Apex Council consisting of the Minister for Jal Shakti and Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

On May 19, 2020, the Board had written to the Principal Secretary of Irrigation of Telangana following a complaint from his counterpart, the Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Principal Secretary, to the Board alleging that the Telangana government is going ahead with the execution of the irrigation projects including Palamuru -Rangareddy, Dindi, and Bhaktha Ramadas Lift Irrigation Scheme, the Water Grid Project taken up under Mission Bhagiratha and Thummilla Lift Irrigation Scheme.

On May 30, in another letter, the KRMB directed the government not to go ahead with the new projects till they are appraised by the KRMB and CWC and sanctioned by the Apex Council.

On June 4 the Board held its 12th meeting where it was decided that the Telangana and AP governments must submit their respective DPRs within a week's time.

In the latest letter, addressed to the Principal Secretary, Irrigation and CAD department, Harikesh Meena, a member of KRMB, asked for copies of the DPRs and project details of the schemes taken up by the government of Telangana.

He pointed out that though both state governments had stated in the 12th meeting of the Board that the DPRs would be given, this had not happened.
