Govt to release funds for SCB
Cantt members seek support over area’s growth
Finance minister T. Harish Rao on Thursday announced that funds from the state government earmarked for development of Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) would be released soon.
At a meeting here with SCB members and ministers T. Srinivas Yadav and Ch. Malla Reddy, he said that although there was some delay in releasing funds because of the Covid-19induced crisis, they would be released shortly.
Harish Rao exhorted SCB officials to spend the money for the upkeep of civic amenities in its limits besides formulating plans to increase the Board’s income.
“Though cantonment boards come under the purview of the Union Government, the state has initiated many steps to improve civic amenities within SCB limits. We are also putting pressure on the Centre to release funds to SCB,” he said.
Meanwhile, Srinivas Yadav and Malla Reddy urged the government to support the development of SCB area.
Srinivas Yadav said that because of delays and lack of permissions from the Centre, many development works were hampering the growth of those areas. He urged the Finance minister to ensure that the state government facilitates payment of `9 crore that SCB owes to Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board as the SCB was struggling financially.
The meeting also discussed ways and means to generate funds from hundreds of function halls that are within SCB limits.
