- DURGA PRASAD SUNKU I DC

With his children and officials refusing, the State Human Rights Commission stepped in on Friday to help send an 80year-old Army veteran, who was ailing with Covid-19-like symptoms, to hospital.

The commission directed the Langer Houz police to the veteran, Chennaiah Goud, who is living all by himself.

The police is waiting for the orders. The SHRC was responding to a petition by G. German Reddy, a former Army man. He said Goud, his neighbour, has fever, cold, cough and body pains.

“We suspect that these are symptoms of Covid-19 and we, co-occupants of the building, are unable to meet him or extend any support. He is all alone at home with no support or food for the last few days. His condition may deteriorate if no support or medical aid is provided immediately,” Germany Reddy told the SHRC. “We tried to contact all possible phone numbers like

104, 108, GHMC, Covid-19 helpline etc but could not get any help or support,” he said in the petition.

Reddy contacted Goud’s son and daughter and asked them to take care of their father but they refused.

He approached the Langer Houz who also contacted the man’s children but were turned down. At this, Reddy moved the SHRC for help.

The State Human Rights Commission directed the Langer Houz station house officer to take steps to shift the ailing person to hospital for treatment and inform his son to take care of his father, and closed the case.
