TIRUMALA JEEYANGAR TESTS COVID POSITIVE
One of the Jeeyangars of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the ombudsman for maintenance of Agama traditions as per Sri Vaishnava and Vaikhanasa practices in the Srivari Temple at Tirumala, has been admitted to a hospital here on Saturday after he tested positive for Covid-19.
Jeeyangars are descendants of Sri Ramanujacharya, the saint-composer and devotee of Lord Venkateswara. They are treated by TTD as custodians of traditions and unquestioned exponents of “Veda-AgamaShastra-Sampradaya and Divya Prabandha”.
A disciple of the affected 70year-old Jeeyar Swamy said Swamiji exhibited mild symptoms of the virus, following which he underwent a Coronavirus test. After the result came out positive, the Jeeyar Swamy was immediately admitted to the isolation ward of the Padmavathi State
Covid-19 Hospital attached to SVIMS in Tirupati on Saturday morning. It is learnt that several other tests have been carried out to ascertain Jeeyangar’s health condition and their results are awaited. While the Jeeyar Swamy’s personal doctor from Chennai has reached Tirupati, TTD has also deployed senior medical staff to offer the best available treatment to Jeeyangar, who is said to be stable now.
An official press release issued by the devasthanams stated that TTD chairman Y. V. Subba Reddy has reviewed the situation with top brass of the temple. He ordered all necessary medical care and treatment for the Jeeyangar.
