The GHMC has identified eight most vulnerable areas which have been prone to rapid Coronavirus disease transmission. Without announcing it, it has appointed nodal special officers to take up intensive containment activities including restricting the movement of residents.

Civic officials said that three circles in Charminar zone, two in Khairatabad zone and one each in in Secunderabad, Kukatpally and Serilingampally zones were identified as high-risk areas for Covid-19 transmission.

IAS officers including Santosh Badavath, Priyanka Ala and Rahul Raj were appointed as special officers for Rajendranagar, Quthbullapur and Charminar circles. Additional commissioners Vijaya Lakshmi, J. Shankaraiah, Yadgiri Rao, Sandhya and Jayaraj Kennedy have been appointed for Chandrayangutta, Mehdipatnam, Yousufguda, Amberpet and Khairatabad circles.

GHMC chief D.S. Lokesh Kumar asked the special officers to closely monitor the situation at the field level and submit actiontaken reports daily.

A special officer requesting anonymity said that that there are over 500 active Covid-19 cases in each of these eight circles. He said that a few additional commissioners did not turn up fearing Coronavirus transmission. However, they have been managing flawless paperwork.

Meanwhile, as per instructions of the GHMC chief, containment zones are being barricaded, leaving only one entry and exit point. Information of containment zones will be intimated to residents. Nodal officers were appointed from the GHMC, health, police and entomology wings to conduct door-to-door surveys, and ensure supply of medicines and essentials to households.
