Id-ul-Zuha is on Aug. 1 in city

Hyderabad: Id-ul-Zuha will be celebrated on August 1 as the moon could not be sighted on Tuesday. The Ruiat Hilaal (moon sighting) committee of the Sadar Majlis Ulema-e-Deccan announced that as the moon was not sighted in Hyderabad, July 22 will be Zulqaidah and Id ul Zuha will be observed on August 1. Muslims commemorat­e the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim on the day.

Members of the butcher community have come forward to get tested for

Covid-19 ahead of Id-ulZuha, which falls on August 1.

The purpose of undergoing the Covid-19 test is to get a clean bill of health and be ready for the festival as public may utilise the services of butchers who possess a Covid19 negative certificat­es. Sources in the GHMC said that officials were considerin­g allowing only butchers with Covid-19 negative certificat­es, but a final decision is yet to be taken.

MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi visited the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital and Government Nizamia General Hospital, Charminar, and inspected the arrangemen­ts for the tests.

Owaisi said, “We are proactivel­y trying to expand Covid-19 testing, especially for those who have to deal with the public in large number. In light of the approachin­g Id-ul-Zuha, we have arranged Covid-19 tests for meat traders, particular­ly the Quresh (butcher) community, to ensure that they and their families and customers can be safe.” He said that on Tuesday, 45 butchers belonging to the Nampally Assembly constituen­cy took the test at the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital. “By saving them from the Coronaviru­s, we are also saving those who utilise their service on the occasion of Id,” Owaisi said.

The MIM chief said, “Being a political party, our concern is to check this pandemic and protect the people from contact with this virus.” He appealed to meat traders, vegetable vendors and owners and workers at tiffin centres to come forward for Covid-19 tests. This will help in controllin­g the pandemic, he said.
