- BALU PULIPAKA I DC

Confusion over the Covid19 numbers in the state continues with the government appearing to be holding back on releasing accurate figures in its daily bulletins.

In the latest avatar of the bulletin that was released on Sunday morning — the health department did not release its bulletin on Saturday evening — the government said that there were 12,264 active

Covid-19 patients, including 1,503 new infections, taking the total to 54,059. It said there were eight more deaths between Friday and Saturday evening, raising the toll to 463.

The bulletin said it had

17,081 beds available in its

61 hospitals designated as

Covid-19 centres in 33 districts including the GHMC area. Of these, it said, 2,134 – including oxygen and ICU beds — were occupied.

In Gandhi Hospital alone, the bulletin said 815 beds were occupied. This left 1,319 patients purportedly spread over other government hospitals in the districts.

Of the 12,264 active cases as reported on Sunday,

2,134 were accounted for in government hospitals. The bulletin did not provide information on the rest of 10,130 active cases, whether they were in home isolation, government-run isolation facilities, or in private hospitals.

Director of Health Services Dr G. Srinivasa Rao had said at a press conference on July 23 that private hospitals had 4,241 for Covid-19 care. These include 1,562 oxygen beds, 635 with ventilator support, and 2,044 regular beds.
