Record 1,986 Covid cases in TS

The state registered its highest single-day number of Covid-19 cases on Thursday, with the health department reporting 1,986 fresh Coronaviru­s infections even as there was an uptick in the number of deaths with 14 fatalities. The data was contained in the Covid-19 bulletin for Thursday that was released on Friday.

The state also reported its single day’s highest number of tests of 21,380, with results of 1,216 tests still awaited. The health department said that as on July 30 8 pm, the state had 62,703 Covid-19 cases with 16,796 active cases and 519 deaths.

At least five districts are emerging as new Covid-19 hotspots, though the GHMC limits continues to record the most number of cases each day. These districts have seen a rise in the number of cases for over a week, prompting concerns in the government.

Ranga Reddy district has registered 1,295 cases between July 23 and July 30. The highest number, 289, was recorded on Thursday.

Warangal Urban district has recorded 745 cases for the same period and Medchal-Malkajgiri district 662. The three other districts registerin­g more cases during the seven-day period were Karimnagar with 518, Sangareddy 489, and Nizamabad with 278 cases.

Officials say that the districts are witnessing an increase in cases due to people returning home, after the announceme­nt of a possible re-lockdown by the government a few weeks ago, possibly carrying the disease with them and spreading it among others.

Rural Telangana is also seeing an increase in the number of cases because people from villages travelling to more densely populated towns on business or for other purposes and getting exposed to the virus and taking it back to their habitation­s.
