Cong blames TRS for violence on Dalits
Uttam says CM has not taken action on accused in many cases
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that the state government under Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has unleashed terror against Dalits.
Addressing a press conference over social media on Friday, Reddy said several incidents of atrocities, violence and injustice against Dalits had surfaced in the last two to three days.
Describing those incidents as horrifying, he said that they have sent shockwaves even among Girijans, Backward Classes, minorities and other weaker sections.
The TPCC president said that the Chief Minister should be ashamed of himself for the incidents. Instead of registering a case against those responsible for the suicide of a Dalit farmer from Veluru village of Siddipet district, TRS leaders were shamelessly trying to justify the death.
He said that the selfie video should be treated as a dying declaration and a case must be booked against the MRO, VRO, sarpanch and TRS leaders for abetment to suicide. He said that the Congress would not rest until a case was booked against the culprits. He dismissed finance minister T. Harish Rao’s allegation that the farmer Narasimhulu’s land was taken away by the previous Congress government for a sub-station. He said that the farmer was in total possession of the land and his family was cultivating it for generations.
Reddy condemned welfare minister Koppula Eshwar for describing the incidents as personal issues. He said people have elected Eshwar with the hope that he would protect the interest of Dalits and other communities. He stoops to such a low level that he is trying to hush up such atrocities only to save the image of the TRS government, Reddy said.
Reddy said that a party delegation would soon meet Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on the issue. He said a petition would also be filed with the National Human Rights Commission.
