TRS MLC, 2 MLAS TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID-19
TRS MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao and ruling party legislators Korukanti Chander Patel of Ramagundam and Gudem Mahipal Reddy of Patancheru tested positive for Covid-19.
Laxman had attended a meeting at Pragathi Bhavan on July 31.
In a rare move for a politician, Laxman Rao chose to get himself and his family members, who also tested positive, at the government-run Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS). Patel has been admitted in a private hospital in Gachibowli.
Seven members of Laxman Rao’s family, two staff members and two gunmen have tested positive. Three of the family members have joined NIMS, arrangements are being made to accommodate the others at the hospital. Speaking to Deccan
Chronicle, Laxman Rao said that he fell sick on July 31 after attending a meeting that was held in Pragathi Bhavan. The next day he went for a test in which he tested positive for Covid-19, along with his family.
Asked why he had chosen a government institution for treatment while others had opted for private hospitals, Laxman Rao said he preferred NIMS as he had confidence in the efficiency of the doctors working there.
The arrangements at the hospital are on par with private hospitals and the doctors and hospital staff are providing better medical services, he said. Ramagundam MLA Patel has been undergoing treatment at a hospital at Hyderabad for the past four days.
He released a video on Monday to inform the people of his constituency that he was undergoing treatment in Hyderabad and will not be available to meet them. Before being tested positive, both the leaders attended several programmes along with others and participated in public meetings. Some of those who accompanied Laxman Rao and Patel have gone into home isolation.
Two members of Mahipal Reddy’s family, an aide and a gunmen also tested positive. Mahipal Reddy has been admitted to a private hospital. Earlier, MLAs Vivekananda Goud (Quthbullapur), Bajireddy Govardhan Reddy (Nizamabad Rural), Bigala Ganesh (Nizamabad Urban), Manchireddy Kishan Reddy (Ibrahimpatnam), and Muthireddy Yadagiri Reddy (Jangaon) have tested Coronavirus positive, as also home minister Mahmood Ali and Mayor Bonthu Rammohan.
