The total number of cases as on Sunday 8 pm stood at 67,660, according to the bulletin issued by the health department on Monday. While the GHMC area recorded 273 cases, Ranga Reddy had 73 and Karimnagar 54.

Eleven deaths were reported, taking the toll to 551. The death rate is 53.87 per cent in those with comorbid conditions and 46.13 per cent did not have any problems and have died due to the virus, according to the bulletin.

The bulletin said 65.6 per cent of the patients were men and 34.4 per cent women.

Those in the age age group of 31 to 40 years were worst affected, both among men and women.

Senior citizens are less infected when compared to younger population, perhaps because they were staying home.

Meanwhile health minister Etala Rajendar along with senior officers of health department visited Gandhi Hospital and stated that patients and their relatives must be given a clear picture of their condition.

Rajendar insisted that all the rooms must be properly ventilated and patient care must be improved.

Doctors stated that plasma treatment is very important. If 13 patients were given plasma therapy, they were confident that 11 would survive. They insisted that donors must come forward to donate plasma.

With the serious cases now coming from districts, it is very important that there must be sufficient staff in Gandhi Hospital.

There are 200 new beds being set up in the academic block of the hospital and the minister along with officials inspected them.
