Centre transfers Sushant’s case to CBI
In a major setback to Maharashtra government, the probe in connection with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput is all set to be taken over by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following an uncalled for tussle between the Mumbai police and the Bihar police who filed a criminal case against actor
Rhea Chakraborty.
The Maharashtra government has repeatedly ruled out transferring the investigation to the CBI saying that Mumbai police are doing proper investigation.
The decision to transfer the probe to CBI was taken by the Centre after Bihar Chief Minister recommended that the case filed by the Patna police be transferred to the central investigation agency. The apex court has also sought for the responses from the Maharashtra and Bihar governments along with Rajput’s father on Chakraborty’s plea seeking transfer of case investigation to Mumbai police. The replies have been asked to be filed within three days.
The decision has come as a massive embarrassment to the Mumbai police who were clutching on to the probe even without filing a case in connection with the incident. The transfer of case to CBI will take place after a notification is issued for the handing over of the probe.
The Enforcement Directorate, meanwhile, recorded statement of Rajput’s manager Samuel Miranda on Wednesday. The officials are probing the alleged laundering of funds that were supposed to have been transferred fraudulently from the dead actor’s account, as per his father.
