FATHER, 2 DAUGHTERS END LIVES BY SUICIDE

- DC CORRESPONDENT

In a tragic turn of events, a 53year-old electrician, Dhaniredy Babu Reddy, allegedly died by suicide over family issues, and, unable to bear the shock, his two daughters also ended their lives.

The atmosphere in YMR Colony in Proddatur, where they lived, was poignant with relatives and neighbours consoling Babu Reddy’s wife Vijaya Bharathi, 49, who fell unconscious on hearing of three deaths in the family.

The two daughters were Swetha, 26, who was married to Suresh Kumar Reddy, 30, of Tallamapuram in Proddatur Rural mandal and Sai Preethi, 21, a second year engineering student.

According to Proddutur Rural inspector Sattaru Viswanatha Reddy, Babu Reddy had spent around `20 lakh on his elder daughter’s marriage. He believed that his son-in-law had a job and would take good care of his wife.

However, he realised that the boy had no job and his family was harassing his daughter. Unable to bear it any longer, he recorded a video in which he alleged that his son-in-law was harassing his daughter for more dowry and left home Friday evening. He ended his life on the outskirts of the town and his body was found on Saturday morning.

Hearing the news, Swetha and Sai Preethi ended their lives on the railway track on the Tippalur-Yerraguntla route.

The Proddatur police subdivisional officer Losari Sudhakar, inspector Viswanatha Reddy, sub-inspector D. Sunil Kumar Reddy reached the spot and inspected the scene. After inquest, they shifted the bodies to Proddatur hospital for autopsy.
