Union minister for Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat prevailed upon the Chief Ministers of Telangana state and Andhra Pradesh not to go ahead with projects on Krishna and Godavari rivers, which are being objected to by respective governments.

Expressing concern over the inordinate delay in convening the Apex Council constituted under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2 2014, Shekawat in a letter dated August 7, said that the Apex Council meeting was overdue and asked the respective governments to attend the meeting at a convenient time.

On its part, the TS government suggested it was ready to convene a meet by August 20.

Stressing that one of the functions of the Apex Council was supervision of the functioning of Godavari River Management Board (GRMB) and Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), he pointed out that so far only one meeting of Apex Council was held in September 2016.

In a letter addressed to the TS Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, he referred to the objection raised by the government of AP in its letter dated May 14 of this year to RMB on the new projects taken up by Telangana in Godavari Basin in violation of relevant provisions
