Active Covid cases rising fast
There appears to be a slow but steady rise in the ratio of Covid-19 victims being added to the ‘active patients’ category in Telangana state, compared to the average number of fresh cases every day. Active patients are those who are under some form of observation or treatment; whether in home or in institutional quarantine, or in hospitals receiving more attentive treatment.
The situation is expected to continue for a few more weeks until the state begins witnessing a significant drop in Covid-19 cases being discovered each day. While the higher rate of new case additions is clearly the primary factor for the increase in the number of active patients, another could be that a significant portion of them could be taking slightly longer to recover before officially being let go from the records as a patient.
While the ratio of growth in active cases, compared to the overall growth in cases, was 2.29 between July 24 and July 31, this rose to 2.9 for the period between August 1 and
August 8. The state had
11,677 active cases and
50,826 cases on July 24, these numbers were at
17,754 and 64786 on July 31. Similarly, the state had
18,547 active cases on August 1 with 66677 total cases, these figures rose to
22,869 and 79,495 on August 8.
The daily average rise in active cases for July 24 to July 31 was 759 while the new cases rose at an average of 1,745. These figures for the August 1-August 8 period stood at 540 and
1,602 respectively.
