A 25-year-old nurse working at Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad was found dead in her hostel room on Tuesday night. Police recovered a syringe and an empty vial of sedative generally used for patients who are on ventilators.

According to the Market police, Soundarya, a native of Nalgonda district, was working as a staff nurse at the hospital for the last four years. Prior to that, she worked in a private clinic in Nalgonda.

Soundarya on Tuesday noon returned to the hostel along with her colleagues. She did not have her lunch and stayed back in the room. Her colleagues, who went to work, returned in the evening and found Soundarya lying on the bed.

At around 8 pm, when they tried to wake her up, she was in an unconscious condition. They found an injection beside her on the bed. She was taken to the hospital but was declared brought dead, said the police. Market inspector P Shankar Yadav said “Soundarya took anesthesia medicine through injection to take her life. She took a high dosage.”

Prima-facie, it is suspected that a strained relationship could be a reason for her to take the extreme step.

“The last call she made was to a former colleague, from whom we have to take details of the conversation. Necessary legal action will be taken,” he said.
