WATER RELEASED, NSP LEFT CANAL COMES ALIVE

Starting from August 12, farmers of the NSP Left Canal ayacut will receive water till September 3. Minister for transport, Puvvada Ajay Kumar released water into the canal from the Palair reservoir on Wednesday.

Khammam district is entitled to use 24.611 tmc water during ‘Vanakalam’ (Kharif) from the NSP left canal. Officials will release water based on the ‘Warabandi’ method from September 10. It means that farmers can use the water to irrigate their lands during the period.

In the ‘Vanakalam’ farmers will receive water seven times. Water will be released for nine days and there will be a break for the next nine days.

The minister said that the government is releasing water into the NSP Left Canal before the normal schedule, and officials have been asked to make available fertiliser­s and other farm related for the farmers.

The minister said that this year farmers need not worry as there is 225 tmc of water is available in the Nagarjunas­agar reservoir. Farmers at the tail-end of the ayacut will also receive water this year. The area in the Sattupalli assembly segment will get water in the coming two days. The NSP staff from engineers to laskars will monitor the water supply in the district.

Mr Ajay said, “Farmers should use the opportunit­y by following best farm methods. They should take the advice of farm scientists whenever they have doubts.” He advised farmers not to apply more fertiliser­s and pesticides to the crops without the advice of the agricultur­al extension officers.

“Farmers in Khammam district had a bumper crops in Rabi, however they did not make good profit on the crop. The aim of the government is to make farmers in Telangana rich and for that the government is working towards providing all logistical support,” the minister said.

Sattupalli MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, Palair MLA Kandala Upender Reddy and Wyra MLA Lavudya Ramulu Naik took part in the programme.

THE NSP staff from engineers to laskars will monitor the water supply in the district.
